How it works

Pick squares on a real map of a real place. When the hunt is drawn, the closest square to each secret point wins its prize. You can also enter free by post.

1. Choose a hunt

Each hunt covers a real location — a town, a park, a stretch of coastline — divided into one-square-metre squares.

2. Claim your squares

Zoom into the map until the grid appears, then tap the squares you want or select a random set. You can claim 1, 4, 9 or 16 squares at a time and assign them a colour. Every square you claim is yours for that hunt and is displayed on the map.

Each hunt shows its price per square before you pay. A small minimum applies because card processing fees make very small payments impractical — and remember, no purchase is necessary to enter at all.

3. A prize is hidden in advance

Before a hunt opens, each prize is assigned a fixed secret point within the hunt area. That point is recorded at that moment and never moves — it is not chosen after entries close, and it does not depend on who owns which squares.

4. Prize values and early draws

Every prize is advertised as an “up to” amount — the maximum you could win if the hunt sells out. Hunts have no fixed closing date; they run until they sell out or we draw them early.

If we draw a hunt early, the prize becomes a fixed percentage of the total amount raised by that hunt. The percentage is displayed on the hunt page before you enter and remains fixed once the hunt opens, so you can calculate the potential early-draw prize at any time.

There is always a prize and always a winner: any hunt that has sold at least one square pays out to the owner of the closest square. We give at least 14 days’ notice on the hunt page before an early draw, giving everyone time to improve their odds or increase the prize pot.

5. The draw

When a hunt closes, we reveal the hidden point for each prize. The winner is the owner of the square closest to that point. The point does not move to match an entry; if the nearest square is still some distance away, that is simply how it falls.

Winners are contacted by email using the address from their payment, or by post for free postal entries.

Instant wins

Some hunts include instant-win squares, fixed before the hunt opens. If you claim one, you immediately receive free squares in that hunt and we email you to let you know. As with prize points, the locations of instant-win squares are set in advance.

Catch the Pigeon 🐦

A pixel-art pigeon

Some hunts have loose pigeons hiding in them — bonus prizes, each worth a stated percentage of the hunt's final pot (shown as an "up to" figure for a sold-out hunt). Before a pigeon is released, it is fixed to one secret square inside a secret search zone, and neither ever moves.

Here is the game: after you enter, we tell you which of your squares fall inside each pigeon's search zone — they glow gold on the map. That is your only clue. No distances, no warmer or colder, nothing about anyone else. When the hunt closes, each pigeon's square is revealed and the closest square wins its prize. Hold the exact square and you cannot be beaten.

Free entries play for pigeons on exactly the same terms as everyone else.

No purchase is necessary. Every hunt offers a free postal entry route with exactly the same chance of winning. Here is how to use it.

Free squares for sharing

You can claim one free square per hunt each week by sharing it. This is separate from the free postal entry route.
